Romeo and Juliet review 10/17

So overall I think my group did a good job at portraying the overall message of Romeo and Juliet. We practiced a lot and we memorize her lines for the most part. We focus on modernizing The play instead of trying to grasp the theme of Romeo and Juliet. When we were practicing we decided to use some props. In our first scene we decided to have The party scene in Romeo and Juliet a party scene in Modern day college. Me and Nathan played two college girls at a party and man was Juliet and I was just one of her friends. David and Joey played two college boys at a college party and David was Romeo. Joey was supposed to be more crucial introducing Romeo to Juliet and so we decided to have it them to just stumbled across each other and their friends left them. Romeo and Juliet start talking they like each other they ask if they have boyfriends or girlfriends and Romeo took Juliet back to her dorm. David and the Indians were both a little awkward just because it was a scene where Romeo and Jul...

Reflection

The overall performance started out with people singing. They were singing and they appeared to be in the freezing cold. They were dressed in jackets and the stage was lighted in blue. After the music stops the two  opposing sides argue who will be the governor of the city. This story takes place during World War II and it describes how a wealthy queen decides that she cares more about her wealth  then her child. When there were fires in chaos on stage the mother leaves her baby instead of taking it because she’s too worried about her dresses. So therefore the maid grabs the baby and ran away.  The maid adopts the baby while there is chaos going on.  Soon after the war is over the queen tries to come back and take the baby back. They may decide not to give her the child because she feels like she has been a better mother than she has and she has raise the child. They decide to go to the judge to handle the situation and the judge in the court decide to draw a white c...

modern adaptation project

For your adaptation proposal, please write a 500-word blog post explaining your idea and enumerating the details of how it would work like you did in the "party" activity. Specifically, you need to explain what part (scenes) of  Romeo and Juliet  you want to adapt, your vision for how it will be unique and appealing to audiences, the tone or feeling you want to create (comedic, tragic, etc.), which characters would be featured in it and how those characters and plot points will work in a modernized version. Additionally, explain the setting of the adaptation (Cheshire Coffee, VDP, etc.) and where you would stage it (in the Black Box, outside on the field, etc.) and what costumes, props, lighting, music, or other theatrical elements you would want to include. Finally, please note all the reasons why you think this version would be a good choice for groups to stage in our class. for my groups adaptation proposal my group is doing a modern adaptation of romeo and juliet. ou...

Blog #8

The group that I was in was group 3 and the Topic was about how Juliet and Romeo both were college students and Romeo gets deported because he kills someone. Juliet cannot live without Romeo so she decides to shoot up the school and Romeo hears about it and thinks Juliet is dead so he kills himself. That is the overall plot of the play that we are doing. There will probably be 5 to 6 characters in the play. There are only four of us so some of us will have to play multiple roles. I most likely will only be planned one roll and I don’t know exactly which role I’ll be playing yet. Each role will have the same mount of weight. Some rolls will be less expensive but the actress or actor Will have to play two rolls that are not that long so it would equal out to a full roll. If I was the play Juliet emotions that I would put tray would be grief and sadness when I hear that Romeo got deported. Also I will show a lot of compassion and love towards Romeo before he leaves. If I was to play tyba...

Adaptation project

If I was to do a modernized version of Romeo and Juliet I would change the conflict a little and I would make it more of Juliet’s parents not wanting her to marry out of her race. I would make There Be 3?character. There would be Romeo, Juliet,Paris, and Lord Capulet. The scenes I would incorporate would be the the party scene when they meet for the first time, the scene where Romeo and Juliet got married, the scene when Juliet is alone in her room thinking about Romeo and she gets the news of marrying Paris, and Romeo getting banished, and  last scene I would add would be the death scene but instead of Romeo and Juliet dieing Juliet would kill herself when she hears of Romeo she banishment alone in her room and her father will find her and that will be the end. I would choose these 4 scenes because the grasp the overall consent of the play. I would have the play always take place at night to symbolize that their love is dark.  I would make Romeo wear modern street  cloth...

Reflection on adaptation

Baz Hurmanns adaptation to romeo and juliet was a more modernized version of the old school play with a little of the shakespearean feel. the director decided to use more of the old fashioned costumes and props. for example the party scene in the play was more of a older themed party and the house of capulet was designed in a older fashion. i think the director wanted to keep the feel of an older play but still have it be relatable to the newer age group. the director wanted to step away from the traditional 19th century culture and more towards the way he would have presented the story originally. the director was all about gasping the story critically and allowing the audience to take from the film. for example, adding in the guns instead of swords was a way that the director showed the same type of connection with the play romeo and juliet versus the more modern times. Another thing the director wanted the audience to interpret was the way the the capulet boys were dressed. He used ...
