modern adaptation project
For your adaptation proposal, please write a 500-word blog post explaining your idea and enumerating the details of how it would work like you did in the "party" activity. Specifically, you need to explain what part (scenes) of Romeo and Juliet you want to adapt, your vision for how it will be unique and appealing to audiences, the tone or feeling you want to create (comedic, tragic, etc.), which characters would be featured in it and how those characters and plot points will work in a modernized version. Additionally, explain the setting of the adaptation (Cheshire Coffee, VDP, etc.) and where you would stage it (in the Black Box, outside on the field, etc.) and what costumes, props, lighting, music, or other theatrical elements you would want to include. Finally, please note all the reasons why you think this version would be a good choice for groups to stage in our class.
for my groups adaptation proposal my group is doing a modern adaptation of romeo and juliet. our adaptation will be in the scene of a college. there will be the characters romeo, juliet, tybalt, mercrutio, lord capulet and friar lawrence. these people are the only people we are going to use becasue for our adaptation these people are the most important to portray romeo and juliet. Our adaptation will be appealing to the audience because there are many aspects of Romeo Juliet but we are going to use most modern versions of the play and the parts of the play that we feel people can relate to and combined them into one play that sums up romeo and Juliet. I will play will take place on a college which will mean it will be more appealing as well to do younger audiences because college has a lot to do with growing up and maturity in relationships. Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare in a lot of ways talks about maturing and coming of age.We want to tone to be very modern and not very powerful. We want the mood also to not be tragic but more of immaturity and unawareness. The feeling we want to give off the comedic feeling in the beginning of the play in towards the end will have more of a serious feeling in a serious tone which will change when Mercutio and Tybalt die and Romeo kills himself. We would most likely stage our play in a modern place like around the school the dorms the dining hall somewhere where books more of a college setting. Also outside because there are many different scenes that are in different places. As far as costumes it will be a casual dress, like jeans and a t shirt and sneakers. For my characters that I’m playing I will have to identify myself more so I will have to change costuming within different scenes. For props we will use two bottles of water or two cubs we will also use a toy gun and probably a bottle that signifies and alcohol bottle, a ring, also a telephone. We would also want to include some type of stage lighting so that he could signify the important people on stage or important people in the room if we choose to have a scene in the black box or take the scene in the black box. This version is a good version for people to stay tonight class because is very realistic and generally happen in real life. Also the play is comedic in some parts so I think that it would be enjoyable to the audience. we wanted to also make sure that we didn't make the death scenes too humerus because that is a serious topic but we also didnt want to make them too serious because it could confuse the audience.
