les miserables

the movie les miserables was very exciting and different. it was a musical movie and it also had alot of conflict. you can also see the change in the main character throughout the movie as well. the movie takes place in france in the 1800. jean valjean is a convict who is released from prison from the prison gaurd (javert)after serving 19 years for stealing a loaf of bread from a market. the movie starts off in the prison camp. he was viewed as a die hard criminal when he was not a murderer or a killer he only stole bread. after a couple of months of being homeless and hungry the bishop offered jean shelter and food. he takes the bishops offer. then jean steals from the bishop. which you would think wouldnt make sense because the bishop is only looking out for jean. he takes silver from him during the night. jean goes on the run from the athorities but soon gets caught. the bishops sticks up for jean and says it was a gift. which he didnt need to do. but he was very caring and ...

adaptation review

n class we watched a adaptation of the glass menagraie. this adaptation was set in the same time period as the book and you can tell by the clothing that the characters were wearing and also the way that the house was set up ( candles, plates, furniture). in the start of the play the director decided to not have tom  talk for the opening monologue but instead sit in the street which appeared to be wet and dark and the voice of tom though was playing in the  back. i think the director decided to have this dim lighting and cold wet setting because he wanted to portray the depression and the sadness that tom was feeling and also to foreshadow that the ending will still be sad and depressing.  the opening scene started off with tom, laura, and amanda at the table and right away amanda goes on and on talking about gentlemen callers, lauras typing school, the fact that her old husband left her, and the old days when she got a lot of gentlemen callers. this is significant becaus...

Character analysis

"I know so well what becomes of unmarried woman who aren't prepared to occupy a position. I've seen such pitiful cases in the South barely tolerated spinsters living upon the grudging patronage of sister's husband or brother's wife! stuck away in some little mousetrap of a room encouraged by one in-law to visit another little birdlike women without any nest eating the crust of humility all their life! Is that the future that we've mapped out for ourselves? I swear it's the only alternative I can think of! (She pauses.)It isn't a very pleasant alternative, is it? (She pauses again.)Of course  some girls do marry." (2.34, Amanda). -Amanda’s character is very pushy. Especially for a mother and someone who is supposed to care for her child and love her no matter what. She doesn’t mention love or compassion about the person you marry, which means that is probably irrelevant to Amanda. She just believes in marriage for opportunity, money...
