Reflection
The overall performance started out with people singing. They were singing and they appeared to be in the freezing cold. They were dressed in jackets and the stage was lighted in blue. After the music stops the two opposing sides argue who will be the governor of the city. This story takes place during World War II and it describes how a wealthy queen decides that she cares more about her wealth then her child. When there were fires in chaos on stage the mother leaves her baby instead of taking it because she’s too worried about her dresses. So therefore the maid grabs the baby and ran away. The maid adopts the baby while there is chaos going on. Soon after the war is over the queen tries to come back and take the baby back. They may decide not to give her the child because she feels like she has been a better mother than she has and she has raise the child. They decide to go to the judge to handle the situation and the judge in the court decide to draw a white circle around the child and the judge states whoever can pull the child out the circle can have the child. There was a plot twist and the judge stated that the maid was rewarded the child because a good mother would never hurt a child. This play does not have a tragic ending it has a happy ending. The child is able to be with the maid who raised her and the selfish woman without. Do I have to play many characters acted in many different roles. Some people had one roll some people had 2 to 3 rows. I think for the most part they did a good job portraying the characters in different ways and different costumes. But it could be confusing to signify which characters they were playing. There was one character (Amalia ) who was the narrator of the entire play and her job was to basically make the play more understandable and come to life. Also her job was to express the characters feelings they had in the play and it also resembled the motion throughout the play. I actually think her role was the most important because it bring the play together and you helped the structure of the play because the play she would stop or The character would stop speaking and she would come in and describe what’s going on in the story and in the plot. Another thing was that in the play the costuming was not very extravagant it was normal costumes like helmets, jackets, tables, gloves, and things like that. Also there were not many props so you had to sort of imagine the setting and imagine what was going on more than what was actually there. But overall I understand the concept. Even though I was not physically at the play for long I was able to get a good understanding through video.
