Romeo and Juliet review 10/17
So overall I think my group did a good job at portraying the overall message of Romeo and Juliet. We practiced a lot and we memorize her lines for the most part. We focus on modernizing The play instead of trying to grasp the theme of Romeo and Juliet. When we were practicing we decided to use some props. In our first scene we decided to have The party scene in Romeo and Juliet a party scene in Modern day college. Me and Nathan played two college girls at a party and man was Juliet and I was just one of her friends. David and Joey played two college boys at a college party and David was Romeo. Joey was supposed to be more crucial introducing Romeo to Juliet and so we decided to have it them to just stumbled across each other and their friends left them. Romeo and Juliet start talking they like each other they ask if they have boyfriends or girlfriends and Romeo took Juliet back to her dorm. David and the Indians were both a little awkward just because it was a scene where Romeo and Juliet was supposed to show some type of affection or that they liked each other but the awkwardness worked to our favor because in modern day when your first feeding a boy or your first meeting a girl you're a little awkward and you're a little nervous so it seemed realistic and it helped in that scene. After the scene I come in and I'm supposed to be Juliet's cousin coming in storming in to Romeo's room trying to find him because I've seen Romeo and Juliet walk off together. i'm playing the role of the tybalt and so we wanted tybalt to be very protective over Juliet because they go to the same school and he wants the best for her. When Tybalt walks into his room and he's not there he assumes that he's with Juliet in so he starts to think evenly and he decides to take poison that he has in his pocket and switch it with the water that Romeo had on his dresser to kill him. Once he does that he starts to hear Romeo opening the door and coming into his room and he's in there so he goes and hides in the closet. Tybalt had no idea that mercutio would be there too and so Mercrutio ends up drinking the poison instead of Romeo and once tybalt finds that out he comes out the closet surprised that Mercrutio is dead instead of Romeo and he admits to putting the poison there. Tybalt has no idea that Romeo has a gun on him and Romeo was so upset that Mercrutio was dead that she shot him down. He was so shocked that he killed someone he tried to escape and he got caught and deported back to French jail. This is somewhat like Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet because Romeo did kill table to and he also got banished and instead of banishment we decided to have him get the deported because that's more modern. We overall did a good job demonstrating the entire death scene. After that Juliet got a call from her father that tybalt was dead and Juliet slipped and said that she loved Romeo and her father got really upset at her. So she decided not to listen to him anymore and a local thug dealer sold her a gun and she used it to shoot up her room and after that she gets arrested but her father only hears that gun shots went off in the room. This compares to check Spirit version of Romeo and Juliet because the same way the teller that told Romeo that Juliet was dead only getting that information from seeing her in her tomb not knowing for a fact that she was dead. Juliet's father goes to the prisoner confront Romeo and he tells Romeo that he killed her daughter. When it's time for Romeo to go back to his sell he confesses his love to Juliet and takes the gun from the guard and kills himself. Which is used to imitate the fact that Romeo kills himself before knowing if from Juliet was truly dead or not.
