Through out my experience in literature and performance I believe I have learned a lot of different things about poetry, writing, novels, playwrights, plays, theatre, actors etc. i have also learned how to become a better performer and understand the thought and creativity that goes into a piece of theater, and the performers mindset. I am new to theater in general and with this class it has given me the opportunity to explore new things and learn a lot about theater. It has pushed me to want to do more and get to know the ins and outs of theater and performance. this class has also helped me a lot with my public speaking skills and being able to be in front of an audience and communicate without freezing up or getting nervous. I am able to do this now because of my experiences performing in front of class class, and having to memorize my lines for performances and projects. a lot of what we have done over the past two years has been a lot about thinking in depth and critical thinking, and I believe that this course was a great opportunity for me to use more of my creative and innovative sides in order to understand certain parts of literature that was more detailed, and even on ways of performing a character and being able to demonstrate the different personalities and characteristics of characters. when acting there are a lot of analytics that goes into understanding your character before you become the character, and even in creating one. while having to write many blog post, scripts, and essays for literature and performance it has helped me to use a directors mind frame and think creatively about the visuals and the emotions that can be or could have been brought to the stage. criteria from my peers was very helpful as well because they can see the things in the performance that needs work that I might not realize. then thinking creatively I think about the different plot changing moments in a play that can be dramatically highlighted, or the different settings, and costumes that can be considered, and also the lighting, sound and other theater tech that can be added to make a more engaging and interesting show when directing and creating a performance. I have learned that adaptation is so key in literature and performance and I have noticed we have incorporated it a lot in theater, and in writing. adaptation is a stage play that has been transformed from a written work, typically a novel. I remember adapting the glass menagerie and the characters in my opinion were very hard to adapt to because I felt like they were all completely unlike me and it was hard for me to adapt to their personalities and put myself in their shoes. I then felt like I really had to dig deep and come out of my shell to properly play the role of Amanda the mother. who's character was loud, and obnoxious, and all over the place with loads of different personalities. I've found through out the past two years that I have done a really good fob at writing lines, and that was one of my strengths. it is not as hard for me to prepare a script then it is for me to act out a character. I am really good at putting emotion into writing, where putting writing into emotion I have a harder time doing. In small groups in class I have found my strength in being the writer of the group and using my creative thoughts in adding modernization aspects, dramatic language, comedy, and different turning points in to my writing to give it more affect.
