4. Colour and sound provide some of the most vivid effects in poetry. How have at least two
poets that you have studied used such visual and auditory aspects as these to enrich their poems?

Two poets that  have studied  were my grandmother in the stars and one inch tall. both of these poems gave a very good representation of visual and auditory aspects.  for example in one inch tall the line that says "the teardrop of a crying ant would be your swimming pool." this part of the poem along with other lines gives the audience or the reader a visual representation of what it would be like to be an inch tall.they do this by using common things they were are all able to recognize while adding n the human of personification("crying ant"). another part that was very visual for me was the part were   shel said "you'd surf across the kitchen sink upon a stick go gum. " drawing the picture that the length of a stick of gum can be the equivalent to a surfboards height with a person. the other poem that I choose to analyze was my grandmother in the stars which thought also drew a picture visually especially with the title. this personification like in one inch tall gave me a very clear representation of what the poet was trying to explain. in this poem the first stanza was very vivid. "It is possible we will not meet again on earth. To think this fills my throat with dust. Then there is only the sky tying the universe together. " this part of the poetry made me think about how the stars are in the  in outer space but you can still see them in the sky. kind of like her grandmother, even though she can't see her, and such her she can still see her throw her memories and the things she has left behind. these poets have enriched their poetry with these different effects to make you feel what it would be like to actually be in their shoes and feel what they are feeling, and I think that is so important I poetry because poetry without feeling is just writing, with Naomi and shel's poetry they have two completely different types of poetry but they both have a similar goal with their poetry and that is to portray the feeling of the poetry onto the reader.

One Inch Tall
If you were only one inch tall, you'd ride a worm to school.
The teardrop of a crying ant would be your swimming pool.
A crumb of cake would be a feast
And last you seven days at least,
A flea would be a frightening beast
If you were one inch tall.

If you were only one inch tall, you'd walk beneath the door,
And it would take about a month to get down to the store.
A bit of fluff would be your bed,
You'd swing upon a spider's thread,
And wear a thimble on your head
If you were one inch tall.

You'd surf across the kitchen sink upon a stick of gum.
You couldn't hug your mama, you'd just have to hug her thumb.
You'd run from people's feet in fright,
To move a pen would take all night,
(This poem took fourteen years to write--
'Cause I'm just one inch tall).

My Grandmother in the Stars
It is possible we will not meet again
on earth. To think this fills my throat
with dust. Then there is only the sky
tying the universe together.

Just now the neighbor’s horse must be standing
patiently, hoof on stone, waiting for his day
to open. What you think of him,
and the village’s one heroic cow,
is the knowledge I wish to gather.
I bow to your rugged feet,
the moth-eaten scarves that knot your hair.

Where we live in the world
is never one place. Our hearts,
those dogged mirrors, keep flashing us
moons before we are ready for them.
You and I on a roof at sunset,
our two languages adrift,
heart saying, Take this home with you,
never again,
and only memory making us rich.
