oral

your adaptation-
-what you did
(talk about what you guys decided to cut out of the play from the story)
-changed from the original play and added to make it your own
(new parts to the play that weren't included in the play from the book)
(modernization, language that you used, seriousness of the play)
-what the message was that you were trying to give to the audience
(decisions, how hard it can be)
-(what was the vision that they had for the play) what was it supposed to look like

  1. What story you chose and why?
- story krik krak chapter night women
- night women (prostetution is the option the mother chooses to provide for her and her son)
-there are other jobs
- father to son no longer in the picture
-haiti at the time- civil issues, men vs. women roles
-good motive
-(concept of the play) about the conflict in decision making
- connects to the real world and how you can have trouble dictating what is right and wrong
-makes a good piece in theater
- connects with the audience and how good and bad can can be all in your head and you can get conflicted and frustrated.
- I figured it would be good for me to play the mother
- female character
- good at portraying real life situations
-stanislavski method (realism)

   3.  Your adaption
-the way i took on my role
- knowing i am a night women (so to speak) have to be protective over my occupation
-meaning secretive and passive in front of son
- still a mother and cares very much about sons success
- kept that the same from the story
-story in krik krak didn’t have an ending (son never finds out about what the mother does)
- does’nt show my sons side of the story / the way that he feels
-  adaptation adds the comfort of the son for the mother
- he comes to the relization that i am the only thing that he has
- wanted to communicate that my son 1. Is of age to understand that the work that i doing is not normal, and different and 2. The audience understood that all i hve is my son and all he has is me.

2.literary analysis
  • theme( decision making, and the challege between doing what is conveniant and doing what is right.
  • Character has the conflict between devil and angel
  • Magical relizm comes in with the devil and angel as real characters
  • I have a relationship with my son he is the only thing that is holding me back from making my decisions
  • Foreshadowing mainly by the conviction that i faced hearing the angell and what he was saying even tho the devil was being very vindictive.

4.performance
  • The perfromance set was staged in the home similar to the story in krik krak
  • Role- mother I am independent single mother
  • -has to portray sad depressive emotion  related to poverty and create this world through given circumstances
  • Using stanislovski method
  • Being aware with haitian governmnet at the time i had to demonstrate the stress that i was experienceing -getting a job
  • The purpose of the monologues in the beginning and ending scenes were to do this
  • The son and me
  • Show that relationship
  • Dealing with the conflict
Performance
  • Set stage up the same as the original play in krik krak
  • Different lighting points
    -beginning bed
    -beginning dresser
-mystical illusion blue and red lights
    -bench smoking cigarette

  • Beds, dresser/ counter
  • Movement scene 1
  • Scene 2 &3  not a lot of movement explains
