play review
In the play this weekend at the blackbox the play had many different components. The overall set up for the staging started off in the living room type of setting with two chairs table, mirror, and rug (those were the stage set pieces). Some of the props that were used on stage were different types of foods and teacups. (Like cucumber sandwiches, muffins, cake etc.) At one point earnest had a passport holder or in other words a wallet. For the second half of the play the staging changed it went from being all left stage to all right stage. Also during the second half the play the set pieces also changed. There was a wall the separated right stage from left stage and there was a dining table with chairs around it. Also there was a bench that was placed center stage. You can tell from the beginning of the play that it was supposed to be a comedy because of the language of the actors and actresses. There was a lot of sarcasm that was used in facial expressions that gave off more of a relaxing and humerus feel. For example the way that some characters had ate their food, they would exaggerate and chew In a over-the-top way. It was a little hard to follow through out the play but it was understood that the two women characters were in love with a man name Ernest who’s name really wasn't earnest but then at the end of the play they found out through birth certificates that Johns name really was earnest. there were about six characters in he play so they all had a big role. a lot of the dialogue was between two characters at a time, every character wasn't on the stage at the same time. the costumes that were worn was more old syled traditional cothing like silk robe, suit, blouse and skirt, traditional dress, old women dress.
