night women and new york day women are similar because of the parent child relationship and the fact that in both stories the occupation of the parent is hidden, because of some type of shame that the parent might have about what she does and doesn't tell the child. in the US the women have more opportunities to make money unlike in Haiti they had little to no opportunities to work unless it was being a maid or peace worker, which were both very hard to get. In America There seems to not be that much violance where in haiti it seemed to be the focus of the country. the haitian people have a culture of being very perticular that is different from the way that americans live, like for example suzettes mother wanting to put lace colors on her softball uniform. i think her mother is very much still stuck in this haitian lifestyle in america. in both stories it seems that families generate the most wealth from the man. but woman do work. this shows that woman will be forced to work and provide for the family if the father doesnt make enough money to support the family as a whole. so what this suggest about gender roles is that men have more of the responsibility to work and the women should not work they should stay home and take care of the family. it seems that in new york city day women the mother is sneaking and working so that the family doesn't know that she has to work. she is also doing things that suzette has never seen her do before. for example eating american food like hot dogs, drinking soda, looking in american clothing stores; just doing things that dont seem like the person that she is at home. the mother in the story has an idea of how she wants to raise her daughter but in the real work the haitian culture is not excepted. in american culture the american way is how people act in new york city its what vendors sell(american food), and american people work both the mother and the father espeshally in a regular family household. in night women it was unfortunite that the mother was single and so the mother turned to being a night woman to provide for her family. this would be different in america. there are more opportunities for that night woman to be a day woman in america, and in american culture i feel that it is more highly shamed and looked at as disgraceful. the night woman in night women's situation would have changed because she would have more chances to make more money. another thing is that in new york city day women, the lifestyle for this family also would be different in haiti because their means would be different.in Haiti they probably would be living in a shake or some type of housing that wouldn't be as advanced as the one that they are living in in america, the arcitecture would be different and it is probably a lot safer.
