reflection on verbatim theater

Reflect on your experience last week exploring Verbatim Theater. Why do you think people do it? What does it accomplish? What was your experience like (and your group's experience)? Was the process difficult? And if so, how so? Were any aspects easier than others? Did you enjoy it? Why or why not? What did you learn?
My experience last week exploring verbatim theater was very interesting and fun. I enjoyed making the lines for Ivan because of the way that he speaks and adding different phrases that he says. Ivan uses a lot of words like "you know what I'm sayin" and bruh, baby, or wowwww. adding those phrases to the lines that me and jasmine made for Jacob and Purdy was exciting because we knew that that was how he really talks in real life and it brought more character to the performance. I think people do that to further express the character you are trying to portray, and really make it seem like the character and in order to do that you have to kind of exaggerate the actions and words that the person that you are trying to act out does and says. as a group we did a good job portaying Ivan because we all were in class together last year and so we have a good sense of each other and the way that we act and for Ivan he is very outgoing so it is easier to pick up on things that he does and emotions that he shows. also Ivan was a good help in the group because he acted as the director of the group to help the actors give good body language and physically portray him in person with body movements that he does, the way that he walks, facial expressions, and other hand movements etc. The process wasn't very difficult because we were all very vocal in the group and we were able to communicate the errors that we were going through and figure out ways around them. so for the most part the performance was enjoyable and also making the play and practicing was enjoyable to because I think the boys did a good job at properly portraying Ivan and making it seem realistic. something that I learned from this all was that when you are doing verbatim theater it is important to really highlight the things that the individual does that are personalized to them and the things that they do to really give it away.

This is just to say

The words that stick out to me with the sound are words like plums, icebox, delicious, sweet, and cold. I think mainly because they are feeling words and the writer probably wanted he reader to feel the words. Also in the beginning the first stanza of the poem when the writer says the plums that were in the icebox had stuck out to me because of the T sounds that I got from the poem. Also the last stanza when the writer says so sweet and so cold. The so was repeated twice to emphasize the amount of sweetness and coldness. Also the s sounds. The meaning of the poem is that whomever has eaten the plums did because of temptation and the writer is trying to have he reader feel that temptation. They didn’t really want to eat them I’m assuming but get were really hungry and they want whomever those plums were to understand the reasoning behind it. Play review: The romeo and juliet play at the park was very interesting. We were all laid out comfortably on blankets on the grass. The play started at 8:00. It was the original shakespeare play but with a twist. It started off with the scene in the village, and then went into a scene with juliet and her mother . In between the scenes they played more modern day music which i thought was entertaining because it gave the play more of a modern feel. During the play there was singing a little through out but it was mostly a straight play. The costumes that the characters in the play wore were accurate to the time period of romeo and juliet. There was a scene in the play where they foreshadowed the death of juliet when she wore a white robe that both tybalt and mercutio wore when they died. Because the play was a romance tragedy, there were two or three scenes where romeo and juliet kissed.
