Read the first story in Krik?Krak! -- "Children of the Sea." Post some reading notes on your blog, specifically 1) identifying characters, 2) summarizing the plot, and 3) offering some personal repsonse/ideas about the story


the story goes back and forth between . man and a women. one of which is talking about there life and the man was talking about being on a boat going toward america. in specific to the coast of florida. adn the women narrator he talks about hopeing that they dont go into a storm adn he is frigtened about being in the middle of the sea. there are other people on board like a pregnant woman with razor marks on her face. some people on board are christians that believe in christ and think he will take them to the home land and also he says that he is happy that there arent any childrn on board because that would break his heart to see their faces. during this the women is talking about how back in haiti madam roger is walking around with her sons head in her hands and walking around protesting that the military did that to her son. back on the boat evryone gets sick and they say they are too dark to be mistaken as cubans even tho cubans are black. they get to the coast and the us coast gaurd takes all the cubans to miami and send all the haitians back to haiti. the pregnant women celianne is the only one that doesnt get sick but she discovered that the boat is leaking and has a leak in the bottom by where she is sleeping and she screams and they hope the coast guard find them soon. the father of the female writes the next letter and she notices that she didnt destroy her tapes and yells at her about being crazy and selfish. so it escalates and she starts to get slapped by her father. and the mother steppes in and stops the husband, and she wishes the bullets that come would hit her and she would die. back on the boat the tar is holding them up for two more days. and his skin has tured black now.and he trys to buy a hat but his money isnt worth anything. the women is still not speaking to her father after what happened and the father thinks she be getting letters from men and it is because he is not a social climber. On the boat they are telling more stories and the male letter writer explains how the “Krik? Krak!” exchange works: someone proposes to tell a story by saying 'Krik?', and the audience accepts by answering 'Krak!' a women talks about the way that in the bahamas. he wonders if the sea is ever going to end. back in haiti madam rogers gets beat brutally by the guns of the military men that come to her house asking her questions about her sons involvement. back on the boat celienne killed her baby girl becasue it was still born and killed herself because she was raped. and her brother was forced t have sex with their mother. the female writer hears throw the radio that there has been a sunkin boat in he bahamas and thanks her father for saving her life. also she sees that there is a black butterfly which resembles death.

This is just to say

The words that stick out to me with the sound are words like plums, icebox, delicious, sweet, and cold. I think mainly because they are feeling words and the writer probably wanted he reader to feel the words. Also in the beginning the first stanza of the poem when the writer says the plums that were in the icebox had stuck out to me because of the T sounds that I got from the poem. Also the last stanza when the writer says so sweet and so cold. The so was repeated twice to emphasize the amount of sweetness and coldness. Also the s sounds. The meaning of the poem is that whomever has eaten the plums did because of temptation and the writer is trying to have he reader feel that temptation. They didn’t really want to eat them I’m assuming but get were really hungry and they want whomever those plums were to understand the reasoning behind it. Play review: The romeo and juliet play at the park was very interesting. We were all laid out comfortably on blankets on the grass. The play started at 8:00. It was the original shakespeare play but with a twist. It started off with the scene in the village, and then went into a scene with juliet and her mother . In between the scenes they played more modern day music which i thought was entertaining because it gave the play more of a modern feel. During the play there was singing a little through out but it was mostly a straight play. The costumes that the characters in the play wore were accurate to the time period of romeo and juliet. There was a scene in the play where they foreshadowed the death of juliet when she wore a white robe that both tybalt and mercutio wore when they died. Because the play was a romance tragedy, there were two or three scenes where romeo and juliet kissed.
