I’m the story Romeo and Juliet I think Tybalt was the reason for Mercutio’s death. I think this is true because he could have found a way around the conflict even though Romeo is a Montague and his sworn enemy. I feel that the fight and argument was directly focused on Tybalt and Romeo. Tybalt was upset with Romeo because of him being with Juliet. When Tybalt started calling Romeo a villain I think that triggered Mercutio because that is his good friend and their enemy was speaking on him as if he was a bad person, when Mercutio knows that Romeo is not a bad person. Tybalt said to Romeo “boy, this shall not excuse the injuries that thou hast done me. Therefore turn and draw.” This shows that Tybalt doesn’t want an apology he wants more than that. This shows that Tybalt was there to kill or get what he wanted which was Romeo to leave Juliet alone. Mercutio in this scene was only trying to protect Romeo from getting killed and from Tybalt doing any further damage to him. Romeo was just trying to keep the peace and be non violent, but Tybalt didn’t want an agreement or middle point, he wanted it to be his way, and I think he didn’t go into the situation with the right intentions and not trying to be violent would have ended better for both of them in the long run. If I were a director I would probably stage this as Romeo and Mercutio standing there or maybe sitting down and Tybalt coming up and provoking Romeo and Mercutio like saying “do something do something” and then I would have Mercutio come in feed up and draw his sword. This would show how Mercutio was only taking romeos back and would rather put himself up then see Romeo get interrogated by someone that is older then he is and probably intimidating. The most important thing that I would show is the innocence from the Montagues side of things rather then the Capulet. I think the Capulet were trying to start a conflict, and so that is why Mercutio died. Also if I was a director I would make Tybalt really mad and I would show the aggression that he had when he was going up to them. This would help prove the point and also prove that Romeo really cared about Juliet because even while being almost killed he still confessed his love for her. That shows that Romeo did not want to see Tybalt die and beat her did Mercutio they wanted Tybalt to understand Romeo and how he felt. Tybalt was the one to want to kill and fight in the beginning because of Romeo and his interactions with Juliet.
