Play review:
The romeo and juliet play at the park was very interesting. We were all laid out comfortably on blankets on the grass. The play started at 8:00. It was the original shakespeare play but with a twist. It started off with the scene in the village, and then went into a scene with juliet and her mother . In between the scenes they played more modern day music which i thought was entertaining because it gave the play more of a modern feel. During the play there was singing a little through out but it was mostly a straight play. The costumes that the characters in the play wore were accurate to the time period of romeo and juliet. There was a scene in the play where they foreshadowed the death of juliet when she wore a white robe that both tybalt and mercutio wore when they died. Because the play was a romance tragedy, there were two or three scenes where romeo and juliet kissed. In the play they danced a lot as well, but to keep the play a little modern the actors were dancing more new school dance. The body language of the actors were perfect when they were in character, at one point one actor that played mercutio i believe; after his character died he played the friar that gave romeo the poison and he was able to change character roles. When juliet died the first time and the maid came out and seen her her expression was so real, and her mother's was as well, they showed a lot of emotion when they found her died. Also the timing in the play when romeo killed himself and when juliet woke up was perfect. As soon as he died she woke up, and as soon as she killed herself for the second time they found her freshly dead. Overall the play was very enjoyable and very well put together by the cast, you could tell they have a lot of experience with acting, remembering lines, and staying in character. It was very cold outside, and I also had shorts on and it took away from the play because I was worried about the cold. If it was nicer weather it would have been perfect. There also was a lot of people and not a lot of room to move around so I couldn't really lay down and still watch the play, it was ether sit up and watch the play and my back hurt or lay down and not watch for a couple minutes. I would recommend this play to others though because it was interesting, and I think for a first time experience many people will enjoy it. For a second time experience I think I have learned many things and I know how to improve my experience for next time. like maybe next time I can help my experience be more enjoyable by bringing more blankets, and not wearing shorts next time. Also I can eat more before I leave so I'm not hungry or maybe bring snacks because it was a pretty long play, and it took a while to start. But I was satisfied with the seating that we got. I had a good enough view of the stage and I wasn't too far back that I wouldn't be able to see the play at all. I know that next time I will also try to bring a chair or something to sit on like a pillow to help my experience be more comfortable. I also would of liked the timing to be better and to get back sooner because we got back really late. Another major thing about the play that was not appealing was the language of the actors. I couldn't really understand the language that they were speaking because it was hard English, and I had to listen more to the content of what they were saying not really just enjoying the play. But I would really recommend this play for people to watch.
